THE ROLE
The Senior Director of Education is a Registered Nurse responsible for region-wide oversight of clinical and inter-professional education (with the exception of GME) related nurses and nursing personnel, ancillary staff, and patients.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to region-wide coordination of education related to professional certifications, simulation, clinical staff orientation, student placement, and relationships with schools.
The Senior Director of Education is responsible for working with system and operations leaders to initiate strategies to design, direct, or source education programs to prepare and develop caregivers and providers for high quality, cost-effective, safe, and caring assignments and practice that meet all regulatory requirements and changing business needs. Leads and collaborates with the subject-matter experts from each discipline (such as respiratory therapy and executive assistants) or department (such as environmental services or regulatory compliance) to conduct an education and training needs analysis, to marshal the resources to meet those needs, and evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented programs. Select appropriate curricula or class structures for educational programs. Analyze participation and feedback to determine needs and changes in the education programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for education and training, performance-improvement resources across the region.
Serves as an internal consultant to the leadership in System Support, & Hospital Operations.
Prioritizes education spend according to the strategic plan, in collaboration with system leadership.
Consults with Quality leadership to insure that education outcomes enhance quality results and to apply CMS and Joint Commission guidelines as appropriate.
Develops and conducts a return-on-investment (ROI) analysis prior to initiating work on training or educational programs for those that meet the guidelines
Creates and delivers appropriate internal controls, audits, monitoring to insure that results are sustained over time.
Ensures educational programs and materials are appropriate for learners and are in compliance with PH marketing and communication requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Required experience/education for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Master's Degree in Nursing or related field required (Health Administration, Business, Public Health, or management)
Upon hire: Alaska Registered Nurse License (Vendor Managed)
5 years of progressive experience in health care administration or management
3 years of experience in education/training including demonstrated presentation skills
3 years of experience working as an internal or external consultant
3 years of project management experience
3 years of demonstrated enterprising skills to frequently start up and carry out projects
3 years of demonstrated leadership, critical problem-solving skills, teaching, prioritization, presentation, and decision-making skills
3 years of demonstrated knowledge of overall hospital clinical and non-clinical systems and processes as well as information systems, business analytics, financial concepts, organizational development, training, and education
Providing services that facilitate learning and assure proficiency related clinical and interprofessional learning across the region
Using best practices for assessing learning needs, designing interventions, designing efficient training schedules, administering instructional activities, and evaluating proficiency. These best practices will include the most effective and efficient methodologies that respect the end-users time and learning style
Developing and maintaining relationships with operations leaders so that all educational activities are planned jointly, are fully aligned with business needs, and are as cost-effective for operations as possible. This includes setting competency goals and aggressively seeking, evaluating, and implementing alternatives to traditional training activities
Serving as a subject matter expert for developing trends and best practices in instructional design, learner support, and educational methods both inside and outside healthcare
Consulting to and with decision-makers when new technologies are selected, and with vendors and third-parties when these are implemented or installed, so that learning needs are realistically anticipated and efficiently met
Possess enterprising skills to frequently start up and carry out projects
Evidence of leadership, critical problem-solving skills, teaching, prioritization, presentation, and decision-making skills
Knowledge of overall hospital clinical and non-clinical systems and processes as well as information systems, business analytics, financial concepts, organizational development, training, and education.
