Job Description for Research Associate for the Miami Safety Study - COURAGE Initiative
Completely Funded by ULink grant, University of Miami
June 1, 2025 – May 31, 2026
The individual must have skills in data analysis, interviewing, and graduate teaching. The individual should have an advanced degree in a social science or law related field. The individual must be highly motivated to engage in research regarding gender-based violence.
Scope of Work:
The Research Associate (RA) will work under the supervision of Co-PIs Professors Caroline Bettinger-Lopez (Law), Donna Coker (Law), and Kathryn Nowotny (Sociology). will assist with the completion of a U-Link-sponsored project, Enhancing Miami-Dade County Responses to Gender-Based Violence. The RA will provide expert advice on interdisciplinary research and work in collaboration with the PIs, law students, and graduate students in the following areas:
1. Conduct qualitative data collection, processing, and analysis that uphold the disciplinary standards of social sciences, legal, and public policy research.
2. Build a multidisciplinary data background related to the project's scope.
3. Implement interdisciplinary teaching methodologies.
The RA will also engage directly with community partners and local government representatives by moderating listening sessions, conducting interviews, discussing findings, and refining recommendations.
Deliverables:
The RA will submit the following documents by the end of the employment period.
Drafts of a preliminary and final report. Draft of executive summary and PowerPoint presentation. Draft of one manuscript to be submitted for academic publication based on the project findings produced in collaboration with the PIs.
This position is fully funded with a U-Link grant – “Program ID: PG016444 Driver Worktag (Account) Name: ULink Grant - Bettinger-Lopez - Enhancing Responses to Gender-Based Violence in Miami Dade. The grant has $65,000 allocated inclusive of benefit charge of 13.6%.
