Scope of Position

The Student Assistant serves as a representative of the James Patient Access Department in providing a positive impression of the organization to patients, visitors, and other customers of the medical center. The incumbent functions as an integral member of a team and will be actively engaged in a culture of learning, cooperation, enthusiasm and mutual respect.
Position Summary
The student assistant is responsible for providing a variety of needed direct and indirect patient and visitor care activities as supervised and directed by the Staff Nurse or Clinic Nurse who is a registered nurse or designated non-clinical leader. The student assistant collaborates with both clinical and non-clinical care team members to identify and provide needed support and assistance at the department level, unit level and patient level. The Student Assistant projects a positive image in dress and decorum. The Student Assistant will be trained and held accountable for meeting Joint Commission standards related to patient rights, organizational values, policies and ethics and CMS regulation guidelines. The student assistant may rotate through different patient settings and work environments in an effort to enhance the overall learning opportunities for the student as well as add value and support to the role.
Minimum Qualifications
Individual currently enrolled in college courses. Ability to use a computer and applicable software is required. Evidence of effective interpersonal communication skills, telephone skills, customer service skills and the ability to deal with multiple priorities is desired. Push and pull 50 lbs or greater.
